Went there in 1956/60. Remember Ann Smart, her father was the jannie, living right there in the jannie's hoose. Loved that wee school, great teacher, Miss Bannerman. Lived in Lamlash Crescent, & used to run home @ lunchtime to watch The One O'Clock Gang on STV with Dorothy Paul.

There is an interesting metal statue near the southern edge. Resembles a paper dart sticking point downwards in a plinth, with a pitcher/bottle on the plinth.

Polygon based on the estate boundaries of Calderbank, as per 1796 plan of George Bogle and subsequent plans thereafter. N.B. The northern march (boundary) has been redrawn along the railway to avoid confusion, the Calderbank estate stretched to a line approx. 30m south of the present Muirhead Road and therefore include all of what is known locally as Loancroft.
  • Muirhead, Smur wrote 16 years ago:
It was inserted on the first O.S. map of 1858 because a of weaver's row situated there, they are long demolished and the area is known to locals as Muirhead Road, not 'Muirhead. I presume you are drawing polygons from maps ...............
