It was actually built to stabilise the banks of the river upstream by keeping a constant level of water in normal conditions. If there was no tidal weir spring tides could reach as far as Carmyle weir.

Great atmosphere, good ale and OK food. Very expensive though, which is a bit mean of them considering their main clientele is student based. Wouldn't recommend, go up to the Park Bar or the Ben Nevis instead.

Excellent place. They do the nicest pizzas around (and the cheapest - £2.95 for a 10 inch pizza) as well as wonderful home cooked curries. Off sales until 12 too, which is handy.

The best wine shop in the west end. Lived on Kelvinhaugh Street for a year, and was always sure of getting a damn good wine at Vino.

Flats have been around for years. Supposed to be tore down numerous times but yet to be done.
Infested with damp, neds and junkies.
If you go there early in the morning you will see the long line of addicts walking from there to the local chemist just up the street.

was brought up in milncroft rd in the 70s n early 80s went to st philips primary before the greg in cranhill ,had a great time growing up in ruchazie , used to deliver the record tae about every street in the lowend ,got some good memories and not so good memories of ruchazie ,stay in perth australia now ,
