Long Remembered Hill The track from Rutherglen bolder strewn That rises high to Cathkin Brae Where gales breath bends the hedgerow double Dark streams tumble, weave and stray Twas like this when our fathers stood here And likewise back in Romans day Before the town stretched out it’s meaning Where men have worked and children played Twas here we came when He had risen When eggs went hurtling down the brae Where thumping hearts held hands together Awkwardly seeking things to say Come wade through oaken blue belled cloister Be sheltered neath a roof of green Beyond, the dappled sunshine dances All is peaceful, hushed, serene The track ascends where dark streams tumble High through Beech and Rowan tree Up to where the blue sky beckons Like the shoreline meets the sea. Then world on view is spread before you, Hills east and west and further still But none my heart is more at home in Than Cathkin’s long remembered hill. J M Hampson 2010 ©

When a lecture in McCance 1 finishes with only 1 flight of stairs available, it becomes a heavy traffic jam when leaving the building.

You were right about them not wanting people in certain areas, I went in looking for the toilet, walked through a door and when it turned out nothing was behind it except stairs, the door had locked behind me, wound up having to go through the Sir William Duncan Building for escape.

I lived in Bellrock St then moved to 74 Longstone Road early 1960's we lived opposite Kitty and Jimmy the Ice Cream van people. Their son Gerry walked me and my brother Iain to St.Modans primary school. My Mum used to clean for Kitty. We spent many happy times at the canal playing or at the garages or in the street. Happy days

Lived at 10 Strone Road until 1972 when parents relocated to Gantock Crescent. Went to both Milncroft and Cranhill, great days and a fab place to grow up. Teachers Miss Cooper (Drama), Miss Uni (she used to tell us her savages in Africa were better behaved than us as she had been a missionary there). Friday nights at the youth club and Saturday mornings at Rollerina in Dennistoun. Have lived in Jersey CI for 31 years and go back annually with my wee girl but sadly both mum and dad have passed away, still rellies in Garrowhill/Easterhouse though so keen my daughter keeps roots in Glasgow. Wonderful memories of growing up in Cranhill with some great mates.
