With only one lift your going to be walking and there are 4 flights of stairs between each floor. Guess its one way to keep fit.

Shut down now. Went inside through the open door, the entire stairwell stank, there was a big hole in the wall on the landing. Decided against venturing up to the undoubtedly locked door into the former parlour. Police crackdown on prostitution was the result of the closure.

  • Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens, Justin Thyme (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
This is my favorite hotel on any continent and I prefer to stay in Devonshire 5. I've had the pleasure of meeting various notables here. It's a wonderful hotel, although I hope they have taken the time to make it handicap accessible by now. All those steps are difficult for a guy with only one real foot.

Wow...what a VERY unusual design. Hard to believe that someone sat down with a [blank] screen and designed that building from scratch.

  • The Dalriada Hotel, Kenny Turner (guest) wrote 12 years ago:
I know the dude 'Alastair Sinclair' I also know Wullie Millar and I knew the late Kenny Sloane. I also played in 'The Dal' around 1974/75. The band was called 'Jaspa' and had the following; Kenny Sloane, vocals; Kenny Turner, Guitar & vocals; Gordon Robb, Drums & vocals; Ian Jarvis, Guitar & vocals; Colin Stewart, Bass gtr & vocals. We were all east-end guys. The Dal was a real venue with a good stage and excellent acoustics in the fantastic big upstairs lounge. I also gigged here with two other bands - 'Juliet and the Romeos' (don't laugh) - featuring a young pre-May Miller Robert Miller on keys - and 'Soho Strut' - featuring Pat Sweeney. Pat Sweeney also played here with other bands. All of Glasgow's best musicians were from the east-end and they mostly all played The Dal. Best years of our lives.
